 Jeff Compton

When there have been some life changes and you feel that you cannot cope, counselling can be a useful way of helping. The problem then is how do you pick a counsellor. There are lots to choose from, who advertise a breadth of experience, but eventually you have to decide for yourself.

Rather than list all of my skills I thought it might be helpful to show the range of areas where I have worked and then let you decide:

  • I have worked with people for 44 years

  • I started as a psychiatric nurse working with high levels of anxiety and depression

  • I moved to become a social worker working predominantly with vulnerable children and families

  • Next, I worked as a probation officer dealing with violent and dangerous people and specialising in perpetrators of abuse

  • Then I worked for 19 years as a Relate trained counsellor both in private practise and within the NHS dealing with individuals, families and children where depression, anxiety and abuse are features.

  • Recently I have become a member of STOPSO a charity that specialises in helping sex offenders change their behaviour.

Sometimes as an individual or when in a relationship you recognise things are going wrong. You try your best to fix them but end up recycling old stories or just not being able find away through. Counselling can offer you a safe space for you to gently explore those issues. Whilst this is a serious and can sometimes feel daunting, my way is to offer you respect, equality and a light touch, with a little humour thrown in for good measure.

If you think that I might be able to help please contact me on 077 969 21260 or email lets-talk@jeffcompton.co.uk. There is no obligation. If then I am not the right person for you, I may be able to guide you elsewhere if that seems appropriate.
